Millville
Army Air Field Museum once again held it's Wings
and Wheels Air Show. The museum is located in
Southern New Jersey and once was a very active Army Air
Field which was home to the P-47 Thunderbolt. This event was held on Armed
Forces Weekend, May 20th through the 22nd. These photographs were taken on
Sunday. Unfortunately the sun did not cooperate, however the good news was
everyone did get to fly.
Roger Lehnardt again showed off his J-3 Piper Cub. His act includes an amazing car top landing. This is done without radio's and sometimes takes two to three attempts. Once Roger gets the Piper Cub on top of the modified F-150, he then carefully flies it off.
The United States Navy showed off their F/A-18 C. This was the East Coast Demo team that tore up the skies over Millville.
Tora, Tora Tora re-enacted the attack on Pearl Harbor. If you have not had the opportunity to witness this re-creation I highly recommend it. Along with pyrotechnics you feel as if you really are there!
One of the loudest and largest bi-planes on the air show circuit. Gene Soucy flies it while Teresa Stokes walks around on both wings.
The United States Army Golden Knights Gold Team made two jumps during the day.
Showing off a lot of afterburner, the F-15 West Coast Demo Team did their performance late in the day. After it routine they teamed up with the P-51 mustang for the Heritage Flight.
This was one of the most aggressive demonstrations of the F-117 I have ever seen. Four passes, low, fast and hard banking.
There were plenty of war birds on hand. Being home to the P-47 Thunderbolt, Millville of course had to have one there themselves.
Less then one hour north of the museum is McGuire Air Force Base. So they sent down a KC-135 and C-117 Globemaster III.
The Vultures are a new flight team on the circuit. Sunday's show had 5 RV-6's. According to the announcer Saturday the team had 4 RV-6's and 2 LongE-Z's.
Misc. Photograph from this year show.
Nothing beats the grace and beauty of the Canadian Snowbirds. There has been talk of the team being disbanded. It would be a great loss to the air show community to see this team disappear. This show, along with all the teams displays this year will be dedicated to Captain Miles “Milhouse” Selby. Milhouse lost his life earlier this year during winter training.
