The Diamond formation consists of jets 1 through 4. The number one jet is, and has always been known as "Boss". To the right of the Boss is the number 2 jet referred to as the Right Wing, and traditionally is held by a Marine Corps aviator. The number 3 jet is to the left of the Boss and is referred to as the Left Wing. Finally, the fourth is called the Slot and is located directly behind the Boss.

The Diamond shows the grace and beauty of the Hornet. The four diamond pilots work as one to perform some of the most graceful maneuvers performed anywhere in the world.
